August 20 6:30-9:30 pm: Soundpainting with the Playground

Flobots.org Community Space, 2705 Larimer, Denver

Bring your instrument and come play with the Playground as we host an evening of genre bending new music.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, how long you’ve been playing, what instrument you play, or even if you can read music. Rock, jazz, classical, folk, bluegrass, electronic- all genre’s are welcome. Professional, amateur, beginner. It doesn’t matter. We want you there!!

Show up at 6:30 with your instrument and learn the Soundpainting language. Participate as a player or composer/ conductor.

 At 7:30 we will “paint” a number of pieces with new conductor/ composers and instrumentation for each work. All participants are free to play, conduct or watch. This evening is about creativity and community. Come be a part!!

Calling all Young Artists!

Flobots,.org board members, James Laurie and Stephen Brackett recently spoke at TEDx DU about “holistic media” and invite people to “live the lyrics”. Watch them discuss how media is catching our attention, and the Flobots unique new approach to communicating with their fanbase and calling them to action!

Human rights and global development share a common vision and purpose-to secure, for every human being, freedom, well-being and dignity. The Denver Film Society is proud to present seven extraordinary documentary films exploring the many dimensions and context of current human rights stories – the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, healthcare programs in crisis in Africa and around the world, the rights of women, and the role of international justice in prosecuting unspeakable crimes.

From May 20^th to 26^th, join us for real human stories brought to life through film, panel discussions, and passionate conversations following screenings, between film-lovers, educators, and community members – all working towards change.

FOX 31 has a great story about the Flobots new album release and in store performance at home in Denver.

DENVER – It’s as if there is something in the water in Denver that keeps pumping new bands out. From the Fray, to 3OH!3, to the Flobots… they just keep on coming.

“And the nice thing about it is we all know each other and support each other,” said Flobots MC Brer Rabbit.

“When the Fray allowed us to open for them at Red Rocks when they played the venue for three nights in a row, that was huge!”

It wasn’t long after that gig that the Flobots, made up of all Denver Public School graduates, began hitting it big. From Leno to Letterman, the group has been rocking it out across the country.

“We just have a unique sound, from Viola to rhythm section to the MC leads who bring hip-hop to the table. We just like to use our varied talents to make wonderful sounds,” said MC Jonny 5.

The band’s new CD, “Survival Story,” follows their first release, “Fight with Tools.”

For their CD release party Tuesday, the Flobots chose Twist n Shout on Colfax, a long-time friend of local musicians.
